What is Working Equitation?
Working Equitation (WE) is an equestrian competition that tests the skills of horse and rider in ranch work. Competition events may be individual or for teams, and are in three or four parts:
Dressage
Ease of Handling Trial, in which horses must overcome obstacles similar to those likely to appear in the field, such as bridges and gates. The obstacle course is designed to show the partnership between horse and rider.
Speed, where similar obstacles must be overcome, but against time
Cow (only for team competitions)
About the Judge:
Ashley Bowers is a USAWE licensed Technical Delegate (TD) and Professional Instructor (PI). She was the first TD to come out of the training program in the nation, and the first PI in the state of Arizona. She has officiated throughout the US, Canada and Mexico. Ashley has been a multi year end state and region champion in Working Equitation on numerous horses in her training program. She also has a small breeding program consisting of Andalusians and Lusitanos. Ashley was a previous Arizona Working Equitation Club President and Founder, as well as a previous Region 2 Director for the national organization and helped with the merger and creation of the USAWE (current governing body of Working Equitation in the USA). Ashley also competes in competitive Dressage and believes in classical riding as the foundation for all equestrian disciplines.
